I’m not interested to know who is right or who is wrong: the hezbollah, the Palestinians or the Israelis. In the Middle East the fuse has been slowly burning down for dozens of years. It could make the explosives depot blow up. A third world war. They say that Israel has atomic bombs, perhaps 100 of them, pointed towards the Arab countries.

If its existence were to be really in danger, they wouldn’t hesitate to use them. Iran will have, or perhaps it already has the atomic bomb. Whoever controls the Persian Gulf controls the flow of petroleum oil and the world economy.

China has a desperate need of oil to sustain its development. China has a benevolent attitude towards Iran that is accused of arming the hezbollah group in Lebanon together with Syria.

Meanwhile Israel is destroying the Palestinian seat of government and is taking a few ministers as hostages. It’s bombing Beirut and is imposing an air and sea blockade. And Italy is here in the middle of the sea, American aircraft carriers ever better armed, as is happening in Vincenza. I’m worried, and you?

If there’s a situation in which the United Nations must intervene this is it. Buffer zones must be created between Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Israel, controlled by blue helmets. Israel will have all the reasons to feel it is in danger, but if every State goes off to bomb a couple of neighbouring States the world would break out into barbarism.

I accept that Israel is more at risk than others, with the Holocaust and all the rest. But now it’s a world problem. We are all in danger. I believe that we need a new Middle East Peace Conference to work out a solution. Standing and watching is just too dangerous.

People like you are emblematic of the problems we have in the Middle East. Who is good and who is bad my friend? Who promised you that land? Stop peddling these superstitions on us.

Dear all,
First of all, I want you to pardon my bad English.
Those who still think that this war is because of two soldiers captured are surely wrong.
I’m Lebanese, and I live in Lebanon. For 13 days, I’m watching TV news, in Arabic, and I saw many people speaking about all of this… Maybe western Medias do not show everything is happening here. This is genocide!!!
First of all, I want to correct Ricardo Pavia point of view: Hezbollah did not attack Israel. He took 2 hostages, 2 soldiers!!! 2 soldiers from the country which he his in war with. Israel wanted that war, and Israel is bombing Lebanon. 700 missiles in 2 days are nothing compare to 22 tons of bombs on one simple building!!! Israel is now acting worth than the Nazi regime: It made 3million Lebanese civilian prisoners in they own country. Israel in using unconventional arms on us. Israel IS the terrorist.
After all, Hezbollah is defending himself, and defending all the Islamic cause. Defending all of this against the word’s terrorists: Israel & USA!!! Hezbollah started sending his missiles after he advised Israel that if she doesn’t stop, he’ll start. But Israel is too proud of its beautiful army. That’s why I sincerely hope that it will not succeed in our dear south, at least, not before they give it a very good lesson of jihad.
Israel is bombing us day & night, killing all civilians. It’s not true that she is trying to disarm Hezbollah; she’s doing e genocide against the Lebanese population! Tsahal bombed our bridges, our highways, our ports, our airports, our silos, full off fuel or full of flour. It even bombed our cows!!! Israel wants to cut Lebanese population out of the rest of the word, and anger them. Is it or is it not genocide?
Israel wants the real Medias out of all of this because she wants to do more and more, with the American benediction.
How do the civilized countries allow this? Did everyone see the real face of this war? How can a Democratie allow to itself to send children to send messages on bombs, to be sent to other children? This is the real face of Israel: she educates her children to kill Arabs!!! We are the Golam!!! Even the Americans think that: 1 Israeli dead is not equal to 1 Arab dead!!!!
Anyway, you can all go to see this genocide on
Now can you tell me who is the terrorist here?

Ok this is a good declaration. I think is positive that UN condamn olso the acts of Hezbollah! They also should condamn who's behind...but It's anyway a firat step to act and try to find a solution to the situation.

Posted by: Riccardo Pavia | July 24, 2006 01:25 AM

UN Human Rights Commissioner, Canada's Louis Arbour, warns the destruction of Lebanon and the shelling of Israeli cities constitute "war crime(s)." Blasting civilian targets and collective punishment are grave crimes under the Geneva Conventions and both Israel and Hezbollah are guilty.

Posted by: Enrico Rossi | July 23, 2006 01:07 PM

Eva, Tiziano Terzani was a man that saw much tragedy and conflict in his adult life and reported it with unique honesty and style. How much he hated the vile warmongers of many nations that inflict unbearable catastrophies on humanity. I miss him a lot!

Posted by: Enrico Rossi | July 23, 2006 05:29 AM

Mr Federico Andreu-Guzman, deputy Secretary-General of the ICJ (International Commission of Jurists) has stated that "While Israel has a legitimate right to defend itself against hostage-taking and the launching of rockets by the Hezbollah over Israeli territory, this right is not unlimited and is subject to the restrictions of international law. Indeed, the disproportionate and indiscriminate reactions of the Israeli military are reprisals against the civilian population and thus amount to collective punishment. Collective punishments constitute a war crime under international law". So Israel is acting criminally and the top political and military leaders of Israel should fear ending up like Milosevich. Of course in order for this to happen Israel must first recognize The International Criminal Court and they presently don’t together with the U.S.A. for obvious reasons. Israel’s actions in Lebanon are inexcusable and a tragedy for all civilized people.

P.S. worth reading also the book,"lettere contro la guerra" by Tiziano Terzani, very very interesting ,he had the balls to tell the truth, sadly it passed away,he left his book as a good legacy of what good journalism is.ciao

Hi blisco,I saw yesterday, the movie "good night and good luck"worth wachting, and I did find also interesting the making of that movie,it looks like history is repeating hitself again, but today no good journalist have the guts to tell the real truth ciao

an other point is: it'is many years that the big powers - europe and same Italy included - play directly or inderectly with destiny of the middle-east and are very dirty of the blood of these populations, Israelis and palestinians included. All for money and power.

Posted by: Riccardo Pavia | July 22, 2006 08:12 PM

ENRICO, I'm not an expert in history, but i know quite well about the Balfour Declaration and what heppened after. What you mean about history? which events you refer too? Try to explain better you poin of view. please.
I wasn't in lebanon under the bombing (fortunatly) so i don't know how many times they use the flyers, but better 2 times than never. Hezbolla they don't mind to tell population about attaks...couse thay aim to kill civil, innocent people.
The answer to your question :"why is this punishment being inflicted on innocent people many of whom are Christians?". It can be many reasons, among them there is for sure the fact that hezbolla are used to defend theyrselves under civilian people. The second and more basic reason is that now is open war, and is open war couse criminal dictatorships like iran and siria (many times friends of european governaments) gave weapons to hezbolla and is since the retreat of israel from Lebanon six years ago that hezbolla organized a new attak - thay bought weapons and prepear the terrain in golan - they are even part of the lebanese governament...why in many years nobody did anything? i'm sure international community and onu and many organizations in lebanon knew about that, but nobody did anything!!!And now it's war! Is to easy to use Israel like a capro and always forget the responsabilities of our dirty governaments of onu, of arab dictatorships, or the islamic ones. It's to easy and aboveall It's not gonna solve the problem couse we push poor people to fight among them , loosing the sight of the real responsables for this.

Posted by: Riccardo Pavia | July 22, 2006 07:57 PM

Today I heard what Condomlezza said about the Israel's attack: She said that they are going to change the middle east. Now we understand that everything was planned in advance. The 2 soldiers captured in Lebanon by hezbollah have been declared kidnapped by Israel to have an excuse to go on stronger than ever.
They dont need a pair of towers in New York, they just need a pair of soldiers in Lebanon!
The point is, that all the medias are repeating the same news in the same way.
It was the same with the twin towers, Irak, Afganistan... It's a new way to make war. To provoke the enemy and then to punish him because he reacted!
Medias are looking like paralized to criticize Israel. It seems that they are guilty for the last world war! They are so afraid to be treated like nazis that they say what Israel wants.
This kind of indulgence is used even by the church.
By the way, 4 russian diplomats have been killed in Irak by kidnappers. Why Russia didn't distroy Irak for that? Only Israel can do that.
Since this is done with arabs, we have not to be frighten, right? But we are not blind, not deaf, not mute and we are not going to shut it up!

Posted by: Blisco jaio | July 22, 2006 03:47 PM

USA are speeding up the process for shipping high-precision bombs to Isreal army, reported italian newspaper "La repubblica" today.

Meanwhile Italian foreign affairs minister Dumbo (also known as D'Alema) flap his ears as never before, proud of having in Rome the conference on the war in Lebanon on next Wednesday. Such a conference will be chaired by USA and Italy.
We do not want the humanoid reptile Condolezza Rice in Rome. Americans, shame on you.

Prodi, too much politics have turned you in a funny puppet. Be careful, blood may be poured in Italy because of your complicity with US dirt.

We do not want american soldiers in our land, we do not want nuclear bombs in our land, we do not want to accomplice USA.
Beppe, please let us send a petition to Italian Republic President to get out of the NATO, now!

Posted by: marco congedo | July 22, 2006 03:23 PM

Like the americans planned to invade Irak and Afganistan with a pretext of terrorism, Israel planned to invade Lebanon after the Sirian army quits the country. First israel entered in Lebanon. There in Aiata al Chaab two soldierd were captured and not kidnapped and this was the pretext to start to destroy Lebanon. Now Condoleeza Rice starts to explane that there will be another middle east. So, everything was planned before! I wonder how many lies newspapers are ready to write under the control of americans and israeli forces.

Posted by: Blisco jaio | July 22, 2006 12:50 PM

Riccardo Pavia, don’t be shocked by what people say, they could be saying much worse.
I don’t personally fault you for taking your stand because from what you write you seem in need of better intelligence and historical research about the events in Palestine.
Start with the Balfour Declaration and proceed to modern times. You’ll become aware of the kind of disaster has visited the Palestinian people. What I’m saying to you is search history and stop reading propaganda. And by the way, in only few occasions has Israel instructed the Lebanese people to evacuate their buildings before they graciously started bombing. Try to answer me: why is this punishment being inflicted on innocent people many of whom are Christians? I know that you won’t be able to.

Posted by: Enrico Rossi | July 20, 2006 11:31 PM

How anybody can say that Israel is a nazi state, that Israel whant to dominate middle east, that Israel is the responsible for what's going on..Israele, like palestine, was created by the united nations in 48, and it's only fault is the desire to survive and not to be killed by the around governament which openly decleare since 50 years that they whant to destroy it...

It's since 48 that Israel is trying to make peace with arabs ... It's since 48 that the state sourraunding him openly declare that they don't recognize it and try to destroy it.

Those are facts!

Why we don't stop to say nonsences and try to really solve the problem?

Stop using petrol!!! If we really mind about innocent people killend

Posted by: Riccardo Pavia | July 20, 2006 07:45 PM

I'm shocked by what people says! Probably nobody know couse media are shit, but don't you think that you have the right to defend if you are attaked by 700 missiles in 2 days? ... yes 700 missiles in 2 days flying on civilians people.. by a terrorist group that declare since decades that whant to destroy Israel at all cost even if that means to kill innocent people and childrens? ... and being this group supported by fascit dictatorships like Iran and Siria?
If you don't defend yourself you're killed end so you don't have any choice even if this means to kill also innocent people...but try to remamber that Israel told this people to go away from the area befor bombing...while terrorist attak by will civilians and also defend theirselfes hiding among innocents!! Fuck, is right to condamn violance, but why not many people protest agaist this bastards that use innocent peoples for their pourposes!!!???
And aboveall, why nobody did anything BEFORE this shit happened, I'm sure that the European, American, Russian, and maybe Asian governaments knew hetzbolla had missils, knew that siria and iran used to give money and weapons to these killers ... but nobody did anything ... maybe couse if he said or did something, price of petrol would have been raised .. I don't know, but for sure for interests.
And in the end is too easy to point the finger agaist Israel, his actions, or worst, like I read, against Jewish people .. is the old story of the capro espiatorio ... but remember that this didn't resolve the problems in the past. We had anyway big wars with many deds. And now, stop saying nonsenses and press against the real responsables for what's going on, Siria, Iran, the same Lebanon which permit to Hezbolla to be part of the parliament!!! and even more European governament, American Governament, Chinise governament, which many times sells weapons to these bastards and have interest in controlling the area. And in the end, don't forget that these are our governaments, wich we choose to rappresent us, and that in reality we just mind to pay the right price for petrol like they think .. So, if we really mind about innocent peolples killed in this war, we should at least stop using petrol as stil as the war goes on ... I'm sure that If we had the courage, the war would stop very very early.

Italian Foreign Minister D'Alema, also known as "Dumbo", proposed today to open a "humanitary corridor". The idea is to allow Europe to send aids to Lebanese population. Objectively, one must be perverted to think that this is a valid initiative. First the bomb and then the ice-cream? Lebanese children will be grateful to the great Europe.
D'Alema, shame on you!
Speak up insted of moving the ears!

I am disgusted with politicians and most journalists: all being so understanding on the Isreal’s reasons to "defend themselves" from Palestinians and Lebaneses and nobody has the guts to stand up and shout loud how very unjust is all this. Why is everybody so afraid of Israel? Maybe because they have one of the best military arsenal of the world and are backed up by the most powerful nation of the world? So, once again, it’s just money that counts. The atrocities that are being let done at this very moment will be a very heavy responsibility on Europe’s shoulders. Why is nobody doing anything? Please somebody act!

Posted by: Fiore Tortoli | July 20, 2006 05:58 PM

And what about the intellectual people of Israel?
There are there some Nobel for peace with Elia Wiesel and S. Perez which some weeks ago they were meeting together in Petra with Olmert and the king of Giordany to talk about peace but now, they don't say anything. They are suddenly muted by something. Ok, ok, they are not the only ones. Did you noticed how many politicians in the world said something about?
Even arabs, don't say a lot.Does it means that everybody is agreeing to destroy Lebanon again?

Posted by: blisco jaio | July 20, 2006 12:00 PM

What on hearth is Israel thinking? Bombing apartment buildings full of civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure on a massive scale can only bring supreme hatred on them from the rest of the world. 40% of Lebanon’s population is Christian and yet they are being punished together with the rest. I’m disgusted.

Posted by: Enrico Rossi | July 18, 2006 05:48 PM

Please guys, what about arabian responsability on all of this? is it really useful to act like they do? do you have any idea about the masses of money and power the so called "resistance movements" are playing with?

I've posted my tribute to Hezbollah's leader here :

The Jews made an excuse out of the holocaust to behave like the Nazi did with them.

And all with the everybody's blessing.

They will drive us on the brink of the 3rd war.

Posted by: High Plains Drifter | July 18, 2006 07:52 AM

As blisco jaio has already pointed out, this conflict is nothing more than a ruse to goad Iran into a war. The current blockade of Lebanon is not a response to anything. A blockade of this scale takes months to prepare, suggesting that the current situation was on the cards for some time. It is far from knee-jerk reaction or defensive action. It is a meticulously planned military strategy.

The suggestion to allow the UN to take control may be well intentioned, but in the past the UN have proven themselves to be anything but impartial peacekeepers and I would agree with Marcia that no sane person would want UN forces in their country. Ask anyone from the Congo...

The ongoing bombardment of Lebanon and Gaza, with public infrastructure seeming to be the prevalent target, is contrary to the letter and spirit of international law.

The deliberate targeting of such infrastructure (airports, ports, petrol stations, lighthouses, tv stations) is a war crime . The deliberate targetting of civilians is an even greater war crime. Illegal or not, these attacks are extremely exaggerated when compared against the so-called triggers - the capture of three soliders. Ultimately, the ones to suffer the most are the ordinary people of Lebanon and Israel, who more than likely want no part of this bloody conflict.

If the UN should do anything, it should ensure that Israel abide by the plethora of UN resolutions that it has so far ignored.

Israel acts without any morality, secure in the knowledge that Bush will forgive whatever crimes they do.
Oddly, they have come to seem like the Nazis they once feared.
It is obviously part of a larger plan to attack Syria and Iran and extend the Jewist state across the Arab world...but they will not succeed!

they call the abduction of 2 israeli soldiers kidnapping and warranted a berzerk response by israel. If that is morally justifiable to invade and destroy lebanon to go after the kidnappers then it should be infinitely morally justifiable to raze israel to the ground for the kidnapping of more than ten thousand of palestinian children.

Their existance has been threatened.

They are used as guinea pigs for pharamaceutical drug test, weapons test - laser, chemical etc
Yes like you they have been asking for 50 years. Now that Isra, France, UK US wants UN in Lebanon , Mr Beppe Grillo sings the same song.

Comments from ICH website

This is what 'embedded' writers like Chomsky don't write about: the bloody toxic pulp under the feet of the Israeli war machine, the elephant in the room.

FPF - July 15th - 2006 - When asked by telephone by the Lebanese Prime minister to stop the Israeli holocaust, their massmurder going on in Lebanon, George Bush II - the American 'front man' for the present global war crimes - declined to press Israel for a cease-fire, ….
- Url.:

Director of Public Relations at Gaza City’s Al Shifa Hospital, Dr. Juma Al Sakka, confirmed the Palestinian Ministry of Health’s report which stated that Israeli forces are using toxic weapons in the Gaza Strip.

He said, “They are targeting the Palestinian body with unconventional weapons and with that comes a phenomena we have not seen before in any Israeli bombardment we have lived through for many years.”

These Israeli bombings are entering the body and fragmenting, causing internal combustion leading to up to fourth degree internal burns, exposing the bone, and affecting the tissue and skin.”

Beppe Grillo you say Isar “is more at risk than others”.

You couldn’t care less for over 50 years of HELL they dished out. Now you start worrying because you see your existence in danger. The Palestinian have this for 50 years and no one talks about the Palestinian Holocaust, The Jenin massacres and the numerous massacres in the Arab lands.

You are miles away and you worry. Try living next door to those you will occupy your house, uproot your olive trees, throw you of your land….. the list is endless.

You amaze me the UN!
Really what the hell has that incompetent little man in UN achieved? During his term as UN secretary he has abused the very group he is APPOINTED TO PROTECT:

His family gained handsomely from Oil for Food genocide sanctions, as did some Italians, the money exchangers of Switzerland, the Australians and the UN personnel as they are doing in Irak and Afghanistan.

Genocide sanctions – over half a million Iraki majority Muslim babies died –“we think it is a price worth paying” A polish jew- female – US M Albright.

The illegal war in Irak –
The butchery in Afghanistan

The regime change of democratically elected leaders substituted with despots.

UN security council a Dictatorial organisation which takes the lofty high ground of democracy – where any of the 5 can use their psychotic veto
The Dutch under UN falg “gave over 2000 Muslim men & boys to be slaughtered in Bosnia and 67% of Dutch – the grotesque cartoon country where fake Muslim Hirshi got fast tracked to the MP position say that they are not responsible.

The UN stood around and let the Lebanese get slaughtered:

The UN blue hats rape chilren & women

UN is there to threaten the Arab, Muslims, Asians and Africans!

My group can do better then provide publicity handing out of caramel in Irak Nassiriya and a 20 rucksack for schools in Afghanistan. Schools which are occupied by US occupying force. Ask the women of Irak & Afghanistan what they want –

The occupiers to leave

They give two hoots for the “western women’s right democracy trash”.

I would never allow UN in my land I can assure you.
You start caring when your existence is in danger so do those whose existence has been in danger for 50 years.
