The Expo 2015 cake
The Expo 2015 pot

Expo 2015 has this that’s great, that it’s about “Feeding the planet, energy for life”. In fact, this is the theme of the Universal Exhibition in Milan. The exhibitions are a legacy from the end of the 1800s. Today with a click on your PC, everything is visible. What’s the point in constructing pavilions and skyscrapers to call together people from all over the world for an exhibition of the obvious? What reason would you have to get a plane from New York or Tokyo to visit the most cementified area of Europe? Among the most polluted with smog instead of air? At the Expo 1992 in Seville, 42 million visitors took part and it was an economic failure. In Milan, at the start they forecast 29 million, now the forecast is 20 million and there are still 5 years to go. The investment estimated for Expo 2015 is 20 billion euro. Where is this money? Instead of investing in concrete and viaducts, with a similar amount of money, “Tremorti” could restore the whole of the economy of Lombardy where at least one company a day is closing up shop.
Interview with Gianni Barbacetto
”I am Gianni Barbacetto, a journalist, working for “Il Fatto Quotidiano”, I also work for “La Repubblica” and I write a few books that I hope are useful to understand the reality in which we live.
Milan is the city that has won the international competition to hold Expo 2015. Here in the year 2015, there’ll be the great universal exhibition. They have told us that it’s a great victory, a great success for the city to be able to do this initiative. In reality, a few years have gone by since the victory of the international competition to hold Expo 2015 and we still haven’t really managed to understand whether the exhibition will actually go ahead. There’s the crisis, there’s a lack of money, there are ferocious arguments inside the parties of the majority, within the circles of power in Milan, about who will get the lion’s share of this marvellous feast, given that we are talking of a feast, that the money for this blessed Expo will really be there in the end, a great big confusion!
Into this confusion, there’s a further danger, risk, if the Expo goes ahead and money is spent, there was so much money at the beginning, a mass of millions of euro that would have been the happiness of any construction company, very good, there’s also an invited guest that is different from usual at this marvellous feast, not just the politicians, not just the construction companies, the entrepreneurs, but also the mafia. Above all the groups of the ‘ndrangheta, that have many interests in Milan and that don’t let great business opportunities escape them. They have already raised their antennas to see whether they too can also take home their own piece of this Expo 2015 million-euro cake. There has been a judicial investigation, an investigation that was stopped soon after it started because a news leak blocked the possibility of continuing the investigations and to understand what was happening and what is happening.

It amazes me that anyone is really surprised by what has happened with the EXPO.
Just a few questions...
Did they not expect the same old faces to be creaming off money and lining their pockets?
Did they not expect the mafia to get itself involved?
Did they not expect deadlines and schedules to NOT be respected?
Did they not expect the government to argue endlessly on who does what?
Did they not expect the usual nepotism to destroy any hope of a professional job being done?
Did they not expect politicians to worm themselves into well paid EXPO jobs while maintaining another important post, so as to not do either or do both badly?
Did they not expect original expenditure to rise to ridiculous sums and then have to call a "state of emergency" to get the job done?
Who is going to pay for this fiasco in the end?
Oh yes my friend, you and me, the stupid Italian tax payer.
Where is the big surprise here???
I am not Italian, but I still pay Italian taxes so I am one of the stupid Italian tax payers. Why stupid? Because we accept this crap as normal. We should be out on the streets complaining. Protesting! Peacefully of course.
We need to stand up and make ourselves heard. I pay over a third of my wages to the government so they can pay Stanca 300,000 Euro to make a balls up of the EXPO!!
300,000??? STANCA??
Stanca siamo noi, di questa situazione!
