The Era of solitude
Endangered species

A meteorite smashed into the earth and it was more devastating than the one that fell on the Yucatan peninsula and marked the end of the dinosaurs. A meteorite made up of 6.5 billion fragments of the human species that gave rise to the sixth Great Extinction on the planet, after the fifth that saw the end of the Mesozoic Era. A voracious species that loved solitude that lives in artificial ecosystems. The other species are superfluous, often annoying. Their destiny leaves them indifferent. The climate changes brought on by man will by the year 2050, cause the disappearance of a quarter of all the species of fauna and flora. A “mass specicide” that is happening now, day by day. Since 1973, Malesia has lost 266 species of fresh water fish. The island of Guam has lost its land birds. Lake Victoria has lost 50 species of cichlids. The United States has lost 7 species of birds. Man is draining the freshwater reserves, that account for just 2.5% of all the water on the planet and that are host to 10,000 species of fish (out of a total of 25,000) and 5,473 species of amphibian. Fish have disappeared from 80% of China’s great water courses, that’s equal to 50,000 kilometres. 35% of frogs, toads, and salamanders are endangered. 34 have disappeared in recent years, and there’s no more trace of 113 of them.
In the history of the earth, the extinction of the odd species has always happened, However that has never happened with the timing of a biological catastrophe that man started 150,000 years ago. From the time that Homo sapiens came onto the scene, the rhythm of extinction has increased 100-fold and furthermore, more species are disappearing, the faster is the rhythm of extinction because of the disappearance of whole eco-systems in which a number of species live interdependently.
Have I terrorised you enough? Because I too am terrorised. And I have just delicately picked up a little ant in the living room, and put it down on the grass outside. I did the same with a tiny fly on the glass of a window that I opened and wished him well as he flew out. I don’t want to be the only species on the earth. Solitude has never been a thing I liked.

Blue Mozzarella: I had one of these from Eurospin in Italy 10 days ago!! - why are the authorities here so reluctant to name the stores selling this stuff and why is it not all over the news here (Italy) to warn people! I pulled off the blue part thinking it was just some staining from the packaging as it was well in the use by date...and put the rest on a bloody pizza...The first I heard of this was on the BBC...not RAI...I suppose it's another case of protecting somebodies financial interests...rather than informing the public...as usual... This info needs to be all over the net if it's a possible public health issue.
