I hate the hunt

sanfrancescogrillo.jpg

I hate the hunt,
whoever kills a roe deer, a capercaillie, a woodcock,
the one that shoots the sparrows or the great tits for fun,
to do some training,
I hate those who take birds and make them blind then use them to attract others, who lay traps, baits, snares
I hate those who use a rifle but say that they are protecting nature,
I hate the woods, the meadows transformed into shooting ranges,
I hate the smell of leather, of gunpowder, of red, yellow and orange cartridges,
often as big as their targets,
I hate the shocking (*)1 massacre of animals that happens every year in Italy,
those who shoot the migratory birds, the falcons, the swallows, herons ,
I hate the good hunter who is defending the natural habitat
and the irresponsible one who kills his friend or a parish priest while he’s sleeping,
I hate the restaurants with animals hung up like trophies,
squirrels, marmots, and owls watching you with glass eyes,
I hate those who shoot close to housing, lead shot in your garden,
I hate the fascist law (*)2 that allows entry into private land
the hunters moving around at less than 100 metres from the houses (*)3 with a loaded rifle when the law forbids it,
I hate anyone who takes away from me the pleasure of seeing a deer, a jay,
animals that my children will only see in the zoo or in the parks,
I hate not being able to go and look for mushrooms without the fear of being mistaken for a wild boar and to hear the deep and cadenced sound of the double-barrelled guns instead of the singing of birds,
I hate the disappearance from the sky of the arabesques performed by the birds in flight.

...

(*)1. The estimate is 150 million animals killed each year
(*)2. Art. 842 Caccia e pesca {hunting and fishing} – The land-owner cannot prevent the entry of anyone entering in order to hunt unless the land is closed in ways laid down by the law on hunting, or the land is being used for cultivation of crops that could be damaged.
(*)3. Hunting is forbidden for a distance of 100 metres from homes, factories, and buildings used as workplaces. It is forbidden to shoot towards such buildings from a distance of less than 150 metres.

Ps: support groups campaigning against hunting.
