Chronicles of Armageddon
Floods in Pakistan

In 2010, Planet Earth has made its voice known. It deserves the cover of TIME magazine as the personality of the year. It’s a voice that cries in the desert of the media that mention biblical catastrophes as facts to be chronicled, a tiny space between the happenings of our court of miracles, between a Bocchino and a Bondi. The voice of the earth, never so powerful and frequent, has become a background noise, a familiar rumbling of thunder, a background to human affairs, something that is inevitable like the great epidemics of plague of yesteryear, or a heap of worrying and unpleasant episodes that humanity will tackle thanks to the miracles of technology. The gods of fatality and progress have always been great allies of human stupidity. What’s striking is the detachment in relation to the destruction of our environment, of the house where we live. As though we were Martians on holiday on earth. On 12 January a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti caused more than 200,000 victims, three million people hurt by the quake. On 27 February an earthquake of magnitude 8.8 struck Chile and the whole of the South Pacific. On 14 April, a quake of magnitude 6.9 caused 3,000 victims in the region of Qinghai, in China. On 20 April in the Gulf of Mexico: the fire on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform caused 11 deaths and a gigantic outflow of oil: it’s the worst environmental disaster ever recorded in history. On 16 July, the explosion of two oil storage pipelines in the port of Dalian in China, according to Greenpeace, one of the most serious ecological catastrophes, that poured into the sea between 60 and 90 thousand tons of crude oil. On 30 July and in the days that followed the worst episode of bad weather for 80 years causing 1,500 deaths and twelve million displaced people in Pakistan. In the month of August an unprecedented heat wave in more than a thousand years, is attacking Russia with colossal fires causing hundreds of victims and the block on the export of grain. Some nuclear power stations are surrounded by flames. In the month of August in the sea near Mumbai in India, a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo vessel with the leaking of oil, tens of tons of crude oil poured into the sea. The load was made up of 1,200 containers with chemical substances and more than two thousand tons of oil, diesel and lubricants. In the month of August a landslide struck India with hundreds of dead and millions homeless. In the month of August bad weather caused flooding in central Europe with dozens of dead. In the month of August a flood without precedent in the memory of humans with rivers of mud hitting the region of Ladakh in Tibet.
The UN is talking about “a disaster worse than the tsunami and the Haiti earthquake" in reference to this summer’s floods. The Earth has a fever; the temperature of the first six months is the highest ever recorded. There’s a return to medieval processions like in Russia with the Orthodox Patriarch invoking rain, the Tibetan monks who are asking for the support of prayer and the Pope who is issuing an appeal for all the populations who have been hit. Meanwhile a big block of ice four times the size of the island of Manhattan has broken off from Greenland and is floating in the Atlantic Ocean.
To the end of 2010, there are only a bit more than four months. Let’s get ready. So far, what’s missing are a 2006-style tsunami, a 2005 Katrina hurricane and the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. With a bit or patience even those will come. What’s important is to demonstrate healthy indifference.

The End Of The World ?
nearly there ......
The Mayan prophecies and calendar have been vastly missinterpreted.
The calendar does not end on the 21-12-2012 at 11:00 am - hence the end of the world.
The calendar just starts from 01, same as the tacometer you have on your car to measure short distances say from 0 to 1000 where at 999 it goes back to zero.
Polar inversion.
That the north will become the south in a jiffy causing earthquakes etc.
Polar inversion happens every 5000 years gradually so 5000 years ago the earth's magnetic north pole was today's magnetic south.
But in 5000 years nobody noticed.
Allignment of the sun's gravitational center with that of the Milky Way on 21-12-2012.
This is an astronomically proven fact.
But the worst that could happen, if sun spots were to happen around end 2012, and were strong enough to have any effect would be damage to sattelites to start with.
Which would spell disaster for mobile communications, the internet, flight orientation, hospitals, tv reception and probably a lot more.
But again, the sun spots would have to happen in a particular period with particular strength and precision to hit the earth directly.
Like shooting an arrow from a swing hoping to hit an apple millions of miles distant.
The Mayans were pretty good in predicting stuff that happened 2000 years before their time, and 2000 years after their time as the sun gravity / milky way issue demonstrates, but strangely, they opted for the old time horoscope prediction concerning 2012.
As in:
Today you will meet someone nice, or have an argument.
A no brainer.
The Maya stated that in and around the 21st December 2012, something good or bad could be evolving on this planet.
Good as in that we all communicate via telepathy, and someone has invented a new source of energy etc.
Or something bad ... which they did not expand much on.
Ok, so progress has been made and good things have happened in the last few decades:
Internet, biofuels, dna, stem cells and at this pace by 2012 we will probably get something really good.
But the Maya said that something good OR bad will happen towards and around 2012.
Well folks ... here is the bad:
aids
ebola
sars
mad cow
pig flu
avian flu
We are in for a pandemic every 70 years and it is due about now.
And with air travel it will spread like in 48 hours and not after a 3 month sailing trip from Hong Kong to New York as in the past.
Wars, terrorism, ... no need to comment this further
Global enviromental disasters, Beppe listed these quite thoroughly.
Economical downfall - see the last 2 years.
More mouths to feed - less land to grow food on.
So ... guess what my slant on the Mayan prophecie is.......
We are already there, the bad is already happening and in great progress, and not only enviromentally.
Oh, by the way ... the Mayans were much more exact than Nostradamus and co. on many of their predictions which have been proven scientifically or simply that they happened.
Could they have been right about the 'bad' around the year 2012 ?
Enjoy the next 24 / 28 months as best you can.

An unusual cold spell in South America left 175 people dead. In Bolivia, estimates ranging from 1 to 6 million dead fish have been seen floating on the frigid waters of the country's three main rivers. Alligators, turtles and pink dolphins inhabiting the rivers have also succumbed to the the unusual cold waters of the rivers. Russia burning, South America freezing, Asia and Europe drowning, and oil spills in the Niger Delta, Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean, Alaska and enviromental destruction of epic proportions caused by the Tar Sands in Northern Alberta. Sing Satchmo sing...
I see trees of Green...Red Roses too
I see em bloom...for me and you
And I think to myself...what wonderful world....
I hear babies cry...I watch them grow
They'll learn much more...than I'll never know
And I think to myself ....what a wonderful world...
