The world is in our hands. The solutions to avoid an ecological catastrophe exist. To apply them is only a matter of political will. This is great news. However the time left to intervene is very limited, this is what is explained to us by Lester Brown, one of the most influential environmentalists in the world. If our generation doesn’t intervene, our offspring will no longer have the possibility to intervene. This is what politics should be dealing with, not things like prostitutes in Parliament, and Tulliani’s house in Monte Carlo. The electricity generating stations using coal should be closed down, now and forever. It’s already happening in the world; let it start to happen in Italy as well. Get organised. Get connected to the international campaign groups that have already achieved the closure of dozens of coal powered generating stations. Get informed and start shaking things up for your children.
Interview with Lester R. Brown, environmentalist, economist and writer:
A queue of cars a hundred miles long
Greetings Cesena and congratulations for the launch of Woodstock Five-Star. Even though not physically present, I am with you in spirit. My name is Lester Brown. I work on research and the production of documents relating to environmental issues and I am the president of the Earth Policy Institute, a no-profit institute dealing with environmental research in Washington, DC. A short while ago we read in the newspapers and saw on the TV a traffic jam in China. There was a queue of cars 100 miles long and it lasted 9 days. You cannot even imagine it. It can seem comical. But the people blocked in that traffic jam, for nine days, didn’t find it at all funny.

PS: On 29 September, the Friends of Beppe Grillo in Rome will stage a “sit in” in front of Montecitorio from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm to remind people that DEMOCRACY IS NOT BOUGHT and that on 8 September 2007, 350,000 citizens signed a proposed law for a CLEAN PARLIAMENT that for too long has been forgotten in a drawer.
