the first states explicitly "sito chiuso" (site closed), the second is not reachable and reports an error in the browser...

perhaps I am too paranoic... but it seems a bit strange, doesnt it ?

My-oh-my; the things thin-skinned and politically correct people do! Some left the square, others "distanced" themselves from gutsy speeches thought to have offended President Napolitano and the Pope. Please. The Italian President has lived and seen too much to feel pain at some arrows shot his way. The Pope insulted a billion people when he concluded Islam only produced death and destruction. The delicate souls with the delicate ears should get a grip and understand the point of what was said in Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona was about pushing back the envelope that Berlusconi has shoved in our faces. Piazza Navona was also about waking up a wimpy, sleepy PD. Travaglio, Guzzanti, Grillo and Di Pietro are there standing up to Berlusconi and company and they use no half-measures, like Berlusconi. The media mogul plays hardball in business and politics. Thank God some people like Di Pietro, Grillo, Guzzanti and Travaglio are playing just as hard! You don't speak diplomatese with "Berlusca"! So they are cutting it close and the establishment, the political class, mogul medias and media hacks feel it. Veltroni and the other wimps reacted by feigning indignation. The wimps are distancing themselves from the gutsy people as if they are misfits. But misfits they're not. Misfits can't relate to thousands and thousands of young people; and a large part of today's youth know as much. Grillo, Guzzanti, Di Pietro and Travaglio are truth-screamers and as truth-screamers they're mocked, patronized, labeled insane, treated as aberrations and when none of the above works they try to disregard them, pretend they don't exist, ignore them. But the gorilla is in the room and can't be ignored. Travaglio's rigorous exposition of facts, Grillo's and Guzzanti's satires are lifting the curtain of the theatre of the absurd, revealing a world of mafiosi, fraudsters, politicians, media moguls, phony CEO's, bankers and the rest of the Italian establishment pigging out at the trough overflowing with taxpayers' money. The vehemence of the reaction to Piazza Navona shows only one thing: Grillo, Travaglio and Guzzanti Di Pietro are a single force rattling the cage of the beast and the beast doesn't like it. US Senate passes surveillance law

The US senate has passed a bill to shield telephone companies who helped in the White House's controversial warrantless wiretaps programme.

The bill also grants the US government the power to continue with the telephone surveillance scheme.

The Bush administration faced criticism when details emerged of its programme to monitor the phone calls of foreign targets in the US without warrants.

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama voted in favour of the measure.

His decision to back the bill drew criticism from some of his supporters, who pointed to past statements in which Mr Obama had pledged to block any bill which granted immunity to telecommunication companies.

"I wouldn't have drafted the legislation like this," said Mr Obama, in a statement on his website.

However, he added, "in a dangerous world, government must have the authority to collect the intelligence we need to protect the American people".

Sticking point

President Bush welcomed the Senate's decision to pass the bill, saying he would be signing it into law shortly.

The bill was passed in the House of Representatives with bipartisan support last month, after House Democrats reached a compromise with the Republicans over the provisions to grant telecommunications companies immunity from prosecution.

Telephone companies were facing as many as 40 lawsuits for their involvement in the scheme.

Previous attempts to pass the bill - and allow the warrantless wiretap scheme to continue - had foundered on the issue of immunity for telecom firms.

Democrats had been reluctant to grant the firms immunity, saying the courts should first determine what the companies did.

President Bush - backed by Republicans in Congress - wanted to ensure that firms which had helped his administration would not be liable for prosecution.

The two sides reached a compromise, whereby telephone companies would not be automatically immune, but courts would be obliged to dismiss a suit against a firm if it is able to produce written certification that the White House had asked it to participate in the programme and had assured the firm it was legal.

Weitreichendste Reform seit drei Jahrzehnten

Bush hatte die Einigung schon nach dem Votum der Abgeordnetenkammer als wichtigen Schritt im Anti-Terrorkampf gelobt. Sie werde den Geheimdiensten „helfen, neue Angriffspläne unserer Feinde aufzudecken“. Die Dienste müssten wissen, „mit wem die Terroristen sprechen, was sie sagen und was sie planen“. Die „New York Times“ hatte von der weitreichendsten Reform der elektronischen Überwachung seit 30 Jahren gesprochen.

Das Weiße Haus hatte mit einem Veto gegen jedes Gesetz gedroht, das nicht die geforderte Immunität für die Telefongesellschaften vorsieht. US-Präsident George W. Bush sprach nach der Entscheidung im Senat von einem unerlässlichen Gesetz für die Arbeit der Geheimdienste. Die Regelung sei entscheidend für die Sicherheit der USA und längst überfällig.

Mentre in Italia si discute di togliere la possibilità ai giudici di usare le intercettazioni, in America Bush riesce a far passare una legge che aumenterà la possibilità di usare lo strumento delle intercettazioni per prevenire reati legati al terrorismo. La notizia era già sui giornali questa mattina. Ma sui giornali tedeschi, non su quelli italiani, ovviamente! È da un mese che non si fa altro che parlare di intercettazioni, a rigor di logica questa dovrebbe essere una notizia da mettere subito in prima pagina, invece che fanno i giornali italiani? Si parla d'altro, lasciando che i vari politici di turno continuino a raccontarci che negli altri Paesi non si fa uso delle intercettazioni etc.etc.etc...
